Coursework Presentation

Today we had a panel of teachers and NUWA students who have a lot of knowledge about film and acting asses our coursework idea that we presented as a PowerPoint and give us feedback.

My Feedback:

  • Resolution?
  • What's the dialogue?
  • What's the look? Framing? Close-ups?
  • You have a plot but what's your story? You need to identify the raw skeleton of your film to find what's necessary to tell your story, with no story you can't engage your audience
  • Story seems a little shaky, not sure how original it is
  • Interpretive ending?
  • water theme
As a result of this feedback I want to create a story board and script to identify the story and work out how I want to end the short film.

Self-Reflexive Documentary Evaluation

How does your film conform to the conventions of the film movement you chose?   The film movement that I chose was self-reflexive documentary and the main source of inspiration for the film was 2012 self-reflexive documentary by Sarah Polley, The Stories We Tell. Similarly to The Stories We Tell the genre was easily identified throughout due to the fact that many of the techniques that I used have connotations with self-reflexive documentaries. For instance, within my film I used archive footage in order to illustrate the strong relationship with my mother and my brother therefore fulfilling another convention of self-reflexive documentary which is to make it personal and emotive. Where I Am Now

Where I Am Now - Coursework  Mise-en-scene:   Costume : With one (kind of two) character(s) in the film there are three outfits worn by them. The first being black jeans, black top, and a black coat. This is to symbolise his grieving over his sister, with black having connotations with death and also foreshadows him being haunted by his inner demons  The next costume is a set of pyjamas that he wears in the night-time scenes, to highlight to the audience the time of day and also provokes an emotional reaction within the audience as his innocence is shown.
